Dome and flat lens options with Star Board assemblies
Wavelength and package choices for moisture sensing and material identification
Optrans offers high-power short-wave infrared (SWIR) LEDs with wavelength, package, and lens options for different sensor and equipment designs. The dome lens lineup covers 14 nominal wavelength categories from 1040 to 2300 nm. Package options include SMD and PLCC, hermetically sealed SMDs, TO metal cans, plastic through-hole packages, and combined emitter and detector configurations, allowing engineers to match the light source to the available space and assembly method.
Flat lens options, Star Board assemblies, and custom multiwavelength LED configurations are also supported. Engineers can consider wavelength and mounting requirements together when selecting a source for existing equipment or developing a new sensor.

Selecting a SWIR source involves board mounting, component height, mechanical support, and emitter and detector placement as well as wavelength and optical output. Optrans offers package choices that address both optical and mechanical design requirements.

| Package or configuration | Design options |
|---|---|
| SMD and PLCC | Surface mounting and light-source placement within the available board space. |
| Hermetically sealed SMD | Surface mounting with a hermetic seal, including a 5 × 5 mm seam-welded format. |
| TO metal can | Hermetic metal-can construction with lead terminals for compatible mechanical mounting arrangements. |
| Plastic through-hole | Through-hole assembly and mounting arrangements that use leaded components. |
| Emitter and detector combination | Closely positioned LEDs and detectors for configurations such as reflective sensors. |
Dome and flat lens options can be considered to suit the illumination area and external optics. Star Board configurations provide LEDs mounted on a board for evaluation and integration. Considering the lens, package, and board assembly together gives engineers more flexibility in configuring the source.
Multiple wavelengths allow measurement systems to compare reflected or transmitted signals at absorption and reference wavelengths. One development configuration combines LEDs at 1300, 1460, 1650, 1720, and 1900 nm with an InGaAs photodiode. Wavelength combinations, device placement, and packaging can be considered together for the application.
