April 2, 2025 — Optrans Corporation (Headquarters: Kawasaki, Japan), a global leader in optoelectronic devices, is pleased to announce a new series of mid-wavelength infrared (MWIR) LEDs ideal for industrial applications. The products feature hermetically sealed TO-can packaging, which provides high reliability and environmental resistance for precision sensing applications, such as gas detection and chemical analysis.

The new products are available in peak wavelengths of 3100nm, 3700nm, 3900nm, 4100nm, and 4300nm, enabling highly sensitive detection tailored to the absorption wavelengths of various industrial gases (e.g. CO, CO₂, CH₄, etc.). It is particularly suitable for applications in high-demand sectors of the manufacturing and energy industries in Japan, such as gas leak detection, process control, exhaust gas monitoring, and combustion efficiency management.

The hermetic (airtight) structure of the TO can reliably protect the LED chip even in harsh environments such as humidity, corrosion, and dust. It achieves stable operation for an extended period, even in high-humidity environments such as chemical plants, refineries, and thermal power plants.
